Bendigo Integrated Transport and Land Use Study

MRCagney was lead consultant for this innovative 2 stage project to deliver a vision for transport and land use for the City of Greater Bendigo, one of Australia’s key regional cities. The first stage involved a series of community presentations from industry experts designed to build capacity in the community to understand some of the trade-offs involved in creating a vibrant and sustainable city.

The second stage was a technical analysis of the existing transport and land use profile of the city, and then an in-depth community engagement process to develop a Vision of how Greater Bendigo was going to deal with contemporary urban issues to deliver growth vitality and prosperity.

The project approach was to challenge Greater Bendigo do develop a vision that was a genuine reflection of who they are, and what they want to become as a community, and an iconic Australian regional city. The community engagement challenge in particular specifically asked participants, both in the planning and design and in the general community, to identify the trade-offs they were prepared to make to get certain outcomes. We were not generating a wish list. This was a deliverable vision for a genuine contemporary regional city.
